What is the Value of My Fabric?

(Color Value)

Bring strips of fabric from your stash to determine the value of your stash. We will determine what is missing to make your stash more workable. You will also learn how to build your stash and select fabrics for projects. We will discuss light, medium and dark values and use tools such as the Ruby Beholder and Color Wheel and learn all kinds of technical quilting color terms (smooshing, fussy cutting, smoothies, chunkies, reaching, and many more.) This class will be geared to beginner quilters. It will also prepare you for the types of fabrics you will need for a successful watercolor quilt. Optional: We will do a fabric exchange. For those wishing to participaate, bring 12 different 6 1/2 inch squares of fabric. Bring different values, prints. Try to avoid solids or anything that reads as a solid. (This is always fun; you get a peek into someone else's fabric stash!)

These are some of the topics we will discuss: Define light, medium, dark; Why value and not color?; How is value used to create dimension and depth? How to choose fabrics for a project. Lots of interactive exercises. Skill Level: All
